Showing Appreciation For Your Employees

Good employees are hard to come by and even harder to keep. The key to a positive work environment and happy employees is encouraging employee recognition. This blog post will go over how important employee appreciation is and how you can implement these actions into your organization.

How Does Showing Appreciation Affect The Workplace?

Showing appreciation for your employees will yield a wide variety of benefits, but we will list two of the most important ones.

Appreciation will improve your workplace morale. Recognizing one employee’s hard work will cause a type of ripple effect that will reach throughout the entire office. Like negativity, positivity will run through the veins of the organization, and showing appreciation is a great way to create a positive work environment.

Another reason why appreciation is important is that it will increase employee loyalty. When an employee feels that they are needed and seen, they are more likely to perform better and stay loyal to their company. A Robert Half study found that 66% of employees leave their jobs because of a lack of appreciation from management (Lipman, 2017). Appreciation can be given in many forms and it can range from an expensive company outing, or even just a pat on the back in the office.

The Different Ways

  • Call-outs: This is what would be called, “an oldie but a goodie”. Call-outs would be gratitude in the form of an employee of the month or just shouting out hard work during the Friday morning meeting. This is a free and effective way to show your employees you recognize their hard work.

  • Express gratitude on social media: Showing gratitude on social media can be done in several ways. Some of the most common are posting a picture on social platforms and creating an employee spotlight blog post. When posting on social media,  post a picture of the team member and write a brief description of their accomplishment. When creating a blog post, use the post as an opportunity to brag about your employee and add information like what the employee likes to do in their free time.

  • Host events: If you have more of a budget a great way to show appreciation to your employees is to host a company event. During this event, you could call out specific teams or team members for their hard work on a grand scale. A large event allows your employees to bond outside of the office and giving your employees a few perks while working for you is never a bad thing.

  • Branded Merchandise: Another well-known name for this is, “company swag”. Give employees branded items like shirts, drink wear, or entire care/seasonal packages to show members that you care about them. Company swag also has the added benefit of potential free advertising for companies!

Branded Merchandise

There are no bounds when it comes to showing appreciation for your employees with branded merchandise. Branded merchandise gives a personal and custom touch that is hard to accomplish with other tangible gratitude methods. Company swag can be as small as a logo magnet or as large as a company-branded kitchen set. Something that is becoming more common is companies giving their employees branded gift boxes on holidays.

For example, here at Evo3, we are often asked to put together gift baskets for companies as large as Microsoft. These gift boxes can include high-quality drink wear, fashionable branded clothing, hats, etc. However, the sky's the limit when it comes to branded merchandise, Evo3 has also put together boxes with branded knife sets, cutting boards, and office supplies.
